AM.OK is a modern orchestra specialised in ‘Contemporary Jazz’ music. Its relationship to Modern Jazz and the hybridity that has come to characterise it, means that AM.OK not only draws from the Western Classical Musical Tradition and various forms of jazz. It is also coloured by the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic conception of South-African, Latin-American, Turkish and Indian Musics. As such, AM.OK will feature guest artists, specialising in these musics, acting as space in which these diverse musical colours can be brought into the European art scene.

AM.OK was born at the graduation concert of Tijn Wybenga at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in September 2016. The resulting performance earned him a 9.5, which encouraged Wybenga to officially announce the formation of the ensemble.

The core of the ensemble is it’s rhythm section, with whom Wybenga has recorded two albums containing the original music of guitarist Vuma Levin (SA), bassist Lito Mabjaia and himself (ASPIRE in 2014 and IDEFIX in 2016). With this ensemble, he has toured in the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, South-Africa and Mozambique and played with a.o: Benjamin Herman (NL), Maarten Hogenhuis (NL), Trumpeter Marcus Wyatt (SA), vocalist Lungiswa Plaatjies (SA) and jazz violinist Caroline Pook (NY-USA).
